TCP Vegas-A: Improving the Performance of TCP Vegas
نویسندگان
چکیده
While it has been shown that TCP Vegas provides better performance compared to TCP Reno, studies have identified various issues associated with the protocol. We propose modifications to the congestion avoidance mechanism of the TCP Vegas to overcome these limitations. Unlike the solutions proposed in the past, our solution, named TCP Vegas-A, is neither dependent on optimising any critical parameter values nor on the buffer management scheme implemented at the routers and hence can be implemented solely at the end host. Our simulation experiments over wired as well as over geosynchronous and lower earth orbit satellite links show that TCP Vegas-A is able to overcome several of the identified problems-it can obtain a fairer share of the network bandwidth in wired and satellite scenarios, tackle rerouting issues, rectify Vegas’s bias against higher bandwidth flows and prevail over fluctuating RTT conditions of a lower earth orbit satellite link. At the same time, Vegas-A is able to preserve the unique properties of Vegas that had made it a noteworthy protocol. q 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Adaption of Proactive Measure for Improving Performance Throughput Of TCP-Vegas
TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) throughput considered to be one of the most important aspects for analyzing the performance of TCP. This article represents a novel proactive technique based Acknowledge Delay which aims to find out the available bottleneck link before it gets congested to get rid of entering in to Congestion phase. The paper also results the comparison graph of TCP-Vegas, Ne...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of TCP Vegas versus Different TCP Variants in Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Wired Networks
A study on the performance of TCP Vegas versus different TCP variants in homogeneous and heterogeneous wired networks are performed via simulation experiment using network simulator (ns-2). This performance evaluation prepared a comparison medium for the performance evaluation of enhanced-TCP Vegas in wired network and for wireless network. In homogeneous network, the performance of TCP Tahoe, ...
متن کاملAnalysis and enhancement of TCP Vegas congestion control in a mixed TCP Vegas and TCP Reno network scenario
Its more refined congestion control mechanisms, also based on the estimation of round trip delays, allow TCP Vegas to outperform the more widespread TCP Reno congestion control, based only on the packet loss detection, in a number of network environments. However, these mechanisms make TCP Vegas less aggressive with respect to TCP Reno; thereby TCP Vegas sources show high weakness in taking the...
متن کاملSnug-Vegas and Snug-Reno: efficient mechanisms for performance improvement of TCP over heterogeneous networks
Improving the performance of the traditional TCP in wireless IP communications has been an active research area. The significant cause of packet losses in such heterogenous networks is no longer limited to network congestion. The performance degradation of TCP in wireless and wired-wireless hybrid networks is mainly due to its lack of ability to differentiate the packet losses caused by network...
متن کاملComparison of TCP Reno and TCP Vegas via Fluid Approximation
We compare the efficiency of the flow control of two versions of TCP, the transmission control protocol of the Internet: the current version called Reno, and a recently proposed version called Vegas. By means of a fluid approximation, we show that due to the use of round-trip times measurement, the window dynamics of TCP Vegas are much more stable than those of TCP Reno, resulting in a much mor...
